Liberty is best described as Crash meets American History X. It’s a provocative, thought provoking film based on the immigration reform debate as seen by three men of different ethnic groups. Jacob, the principle character, finds his small rural, mostly Caucasian community has undergone dramatic changes in recent years with the influx of undocumented Hispanic workers. With a barrage of losses (his job, his fiancée, his daughter, his civil liberties) Jacob is compelled to make decisions that fuel his anger and discontent with his state of affairs. However, the support of other like minded people he is associated with leaves him empty and alone when he discovers the truth in their motives. Caught up in the downward spiral his life has taken, Jacob makes one ultimate decision which will complicate his life forever.
